I like mackrel fishing (more so eating them

) but I hate the scores of people that only fish for them ...you know the ones.... weekend warriors with rods!!

and the funny thing is ... you only see them during the mackrel run.. in fine weather!! ya never see them near a beach or pier during the winter months!! (so shusssshhh dont tell them the mackrel were running since April!!)

Have to agree with that and also stay away from crowded piers. They are one of the best fighting fish on a light set up.

When you are facing a blank you would be damn glad to hook one of the little blue sea tigers! It is not as if it is difficult to avoid them....especially this year!

i agree. i like doing it and intend to get my niece and nephew a go at it but as you say i had the people that turn up in the sunny days, leave their rubbish behind (the dozens of empty packets of feathers etc!!) and are never seen anywhere again.
i understand people want to have a go at fishing but casting lines over me because i maybe got one fecking fish!!

and then leaving the place like a dump!

Fishing is fishing and no harm in fishing for mackeral.
Its some people that I don't like, but others are no bother at all.

go fishing for them on the fly! its fecking mad. or use a trout rod and 6 lb line it is really very good
I know what you mean though you are fishing away quiet happy, all of sudden a group turns up with new rods reels (and for some reason massive weights) and start flinging it out right next to you. whats more you are there with a spinning rod with an appropriate amount of weight and mackeral feathers and you are out casting them and out fishing them. Its one of the few times in my life I get to feel smug.....

yes bob i agree they look at me like a sun kissed addonis as i launch a two ounce weight 80 yards out on a sunny afternoon

then eyes reilly pulls a bass up from under his feet and calm returns to greystones rocks once more

I am the only one who taught themselves to fish by fishing for Macks?

Fish for them with match style coarse gear, great sport. I they reach a few pounds more, would by great sport fish. Can't stand some of the people that fish for them with the supermarket tackle

Will end up getting anglers band from some marks. Has happened in UK

I was out last week...and was catching single macks for the table..out in Howth with incoming tide...and like that because i was catching I attracted a small army of "new rods" with enormous wieghts over casting on me when ever i hauled a mack in

then the new rods left thier empty feather packets behind after an hour or so

... as said earlier there were marks closed down in england because of this carry on
