"fire in ther water" its common roung here, it appers around the F.M. in the summer, if ya splash/sweerl the water wit ur hand it becomes visable. it also deters a lot of poachers as it "lights up" the nets at nite makeing them visable to the bass

Yes, we saw that last winter. It was Whiterock beach if memory serves. Also I'm fairly sure it was another chap on the beach who was fishing who pulled it out of the sea. He asked us to verify that we could also see it and that he wasn't losing his marbles. Either way, he wasn't mightly enthused to touch it and gingerly attempted to remove it from his hook without using his hands. Maybe he too had Selafield on his mind!

the lights you seen in the weed is actually (PHOSPHORUS) its a toxic nonmetallic element that glows in the dark
a few weeks back i left some ling carcas in a bucket to dump back in the sea and i forgot about them for 2 days on coming back home with the dog from a walk one night they were glowing in the dark i taught i had left a chemical light in the bucket

it was that bright, sellafield came to mind, scary stuff

always found that fishing was good when we saw it. Last time I saw it back in May my son and I had 14 bass.
Wish I saw some last Tue when we blanked.

Say it is a good chance of being some species of Noctiluca, which is a dinoflagellate (would be grouped in with the phytoplankton). Usually some in the water, but at warm settled conditions it can bloom. Had a few fun nights down here out in the boat with green glowing wake, or with the kids at the shore line making stuff glow and sparkle when it has settled as the tide retreats.

During calm summer nights in the irish sea we would see bright phosphorus plankton in the propellor wake. stunning looking.
Also on seperate times on the underside of the prawns we would see very bright green phosphorus flashing i believe they where parasites. you could rub them off oto your hand. they where thin and about 1mm by 4mm very rectangler in size. flashing about onces a second. They where as bright if not brighter than a new chemical light. they would stop flashing/die about 10mins after coming out of the water.
