mark.. i take it you will be there at the next comp....

do what i will be doing... do a search on all of cortaz's posts of clonea and build up a picture of what where and when i.e. what bait.. where to cast and when it fishes best

fishes anytime of the tide mark...i got the 9.5lber on the drop and ive caught plenty on the rise 2... usually an hour b4 and after each hw and lw mark... but its prettty constant... it depends where the comp is staged, theres 3 or 4 diff marks on the beach if not more...the castle side is clean/mixed ground, but not to snaggy at all, the west side is similiar, east side is more rocky sand mix, with snags if your not careful... it all depends were you are pegged...lug being the best bait by far, mayb with a razor tip off for those big bass... i always use size 2/0s here, i dont think there will be much scratching done on this beach if there is a nice surf!! failing bass you have dogs at distance, they seem to feed at a whim, and more of a bycatch really... coalies are about 2, but they are small...and id imagine if they are about, then the bass are somewhere else... plenty of flounder 2, well counting size too... id say this will be an interesting comp, and luck really falls on the pegs... i rem fishing the beach with 9 other anglers beside me, in peg terms i was number 2... and i was the only person to catch bass.... and they basically had the same tactics as me...

It's a flat beach so you'll be moving with the tide. I've only fished it once, when Dave caught is 9.99lb bass. I got a small bass and a couple of decent flounder (one was 34 I think, big enough for a meal anyway) the same night. Pleanty of fish.

Scratching is all well and good, but I'm looking forward to getting my teeth into something better ;)

thanks for info. good of ya.

the dusk is probably the best time, i have fished the dusk there 20+ times this yr. and have had bass every time.
it fishes at any stage of tide, l.
if conditions are good it will fish o.k. at any time. ie. 2/5 ft. surf and overcast.
if the comp. was fished from say 6 till 11 or 7 till 12 rather that from 4 till9 there could be a lot of bass got. the lights from the hotel car park light up the beach a bit,.
most of the bass are taken whitin 10 and 80 yards(thats about as far as i can cast!)

How are ya cortaz. Thanks for sharing the info. Only worries are how does it fish in flat calm, bright conditions in the middle of june? (Quite possible) We have an estuary mark as a back up if these conditions prevail.

Thu May 17, 2007 12:10 pm

itys very patchy in them conditions seany...very... it happened bout 2 months ago to me, only bass caught was when the cloud covered the sun for a while

Thanks Mr Green, sure if the conditions are wrong it'll just have to be the estuary and roll on the cunnigar the next day for bass and bream!
