Tale of a Break

by eyesreilly

On a sandy beach by a deep blue sea,
a horrible thing just happened to me.
My rod that had cost me quite a few bob,
just snapped when I cast out, twas merely a lob  .

With high hopes we set out, myself and the wife,
a few days away, to try the good life
Those days would be filled up with fishing and play,
Head down during midweek, come home on Friday.

On day one I drove down, set up at the rocks,
my small rod responded to all of those knocks.
Wrasse, blennies, pollock, a nice shore rock ling
While above me Mackbashers cast out all their bling.
But no macks were out there , not one did I see,
none for the bait fridge, or even for tea  .

On day two with high hopes, we tried a beach mark,
though inside I knew it fished best after dark.
I cast out and then heard that horrible sound,
as the mid-section snapped and the tip hit the ground
I fished with my small rod for the rest of the day,
but a blank was the outcome as the fish wouldnt play  .

That evening I went out, this time Dunmore East
but the tides were all wrong as the Harbour I reached.
I parked up the car and sorted out gear,
then headed off down to the end of the Pier.
I landed some pollock, they had saved me from blanking
then all the way home, the Good Lord I was thanking

The last day was spent with me back at those rocks,
twas hard work connecting with most of those knocks.
But a few fish were landed and all were returned,
and I got home refreshed if a little sun-burned
Now i'm back on the East Coast, thinking of Smuts  ,
Thank God for this fishing,,,,,though it can drive you nuts
