Just wanted to put this query out there:
I recently started to fish the shannon estuary around Foynes and have had some success with mackeral strips and peeler crab... (mainly flounder/ plaice). I really do think it is a very unexplored and dare I say under-rated strech of water... the problem is the bloody crabs. They absolutely massacre baits of all decriptions but it seems that they are much worse at certain times of the tide.
Has anyone got any tips on overcoming this problem? One thought is that it may help to try and fish the main tidal rip which is definitely easier said than done from the shore on such a large body of water.
Any info on this or experiences/ hotspots on the shannon estuary would be greatly appreciated.
Simon.
