Lecanvey Pier, Co. Mayo Past the village of Murrisk on the R335 from Westport to Louisburgh, is a small tidal pier with a tiny stream emptying onto a horseshoe beach.  Access is down a narrow twisting (one car wide) road, about a kilometre west of the car park for the ascent to Craogh Patrick.  A picturesque spot, it will never set the fishing world on fire and suffers by direct comparison with better marks throughout Clew Bay.

On the last two hours of high water in summer, any Mackerel available will fall to feathers, ideally baited, with small Pollack inhabiting a patch of rough ground no more than twenty yards out from the end of the pier.  Flounder and small Dabs are a possibility as are the poisonous Weeverfish.  For the flatfish try lugworm as bait - it can be dug locally at the so-called "Cockle Strand" behind the holiday homes near Bertra Strand. There are some small snags but it is mostly a sandy / mud bottom.  Beware the locations marked by lobster and crab pots, mostly well away from the pier - strap conger will often "visit" lobster and crab pots on a regular basis.. worth a try perhaps.

Take care when casting given that an adventure centre use it as their base for water sports training, mostly kayaking.  It is sheltered and has a great view of Croagh Patrick..

Probabilities: Mackerel, Pollack, Coalfish

Possibilities: Flounder, Lesser Weeverfish (care needed).

Rare Exceptions: Bull Huss, Conger Eel, Ballen Wrasse, Dogfish, Ray.
