Kilmurrin Cove, Co. Waterford.  Head west along the coast road from Tramore and past the village of Fenor on the R675, taking the coast road towards Dungarvan.   At Annestown, it is important you head straight on at the top of the hill, taking a smaller coast road off the R675 and a few kilometres on, you come down over a hill and find yourself facing this specactular and very sheltered cove - a useful spot on a windy day.

What about the fishing?

We have no reports on the cove itself, and due to the lack of any sizeable stream, apparently there are little or no Flatfish available. Bass might be a possibility along the rocky margins but its gets very steep and the waves get funnelled in so that even on a calm days the tide can really race in and swell up over the rocks.  What appealed to me however were the excellent and clearly accessible rock marks on either side of the mouth of the cove.  Access is along well worn paths in the fields - beware the extremely slippery grass.  It is slippery dry or wet.  These marks look like excellent Wrasse and Pollack country, with doubtless Conger on the bottom and Mackerel to feathers or a float fished bait in the summer.  Since you have sand you could pick up Flatfish and possibly even Ray although that is pushing it!  I would also suspect the presence of Dogfish especially over the sandy margins at low water.

In Tramore the newsagent on the western edge of the village has a limited supply of fishing tackle but for proper kit and baits try John O'Briens in Waterford City on (051) 844314.  There is another store, of the Army surplus variety, with an excellent tackle section and frozen bait on New Street opposite the new car park.

Probabilities: Conger, Dogfish (resident); Mackerel, Pollack, Ballen Wrasse (summer).

Possibilities: Bass (resident); Flatfish (summer).

Rare Exceptions: Three Bearded Rockling.
