I saw a small one taken from the rocks at the Bridges of Ross in mid June some years ago, but for proper Ling, you need to be on a boat.

Deepest water you can find close in over rough ground look on the navionics web app and you might find some! Try big baits and big hooks to try to avoid smaller species... I know a mark or 2 in Donegal but none down south. Nice challenge though! Here's the app if you don't have it... https://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en#@ ... qzHz_yq%40

I would think that the one place that could throw up a decent ling from the shore would be Beara, seeing as you are straight into good deep water

Aye, that's a fair call. There's a lad out there runs a B and B and he guides angling trips from the shore for free if you stay for a few nights. He might know. I'm not sure exactly of his name etc but if you have trouble finding him pm me.

Cheers lads, I'm over there in September, I'll be chucking out a 3rd rod just for the chance of a ling.

why not just book a day on a boat, you could expend a lot of expense and effort and
probably not catch one, such a waste of time money and effort

That's the whole attraction, catching one from the shore is rare

They have been caught to 16 lbs off the shore on the Beara Peninsula. Pictures and catch reports on Facebook page 'Sea fishing on the Beara Peninsula.
Live out on the beautiful Beara Peninsula. Always willing to assist visiting anglers.
