Such pleasure reading that I will head out in the morning. Haven't a clue what this is all about but seems like good bit of fun so only one way to find out. Any tips welcome. Am thinking of fishing both the morning and the evening tide so just wondering if there is a shore mark I can hit on the low tide not too far away cause St M. is already a 2.5 hour spin for me.

Just back in the door. I left at 4:15 this morning and fished both tides. The morning tide was absolutely &%$£&. There where about 8 people in total fishing the morning tide and not 1 single fish of any description was caught. Seriously depressed I drove to New Ross (about 20km) because I had forgotten my wallet but through modern technology I could still pin at the atm luckily otherwise I would have been pretty hungry by now. After a solid breakfast I drove to the pier in Dungannon looked fishable at low tide but two things stopped me from taking my rods from the car, the first one was digging for lug and the second one was the smell of the place (someone tried to dump the remains of a rather large turbot, some fish bones and scallops over the pier but didn't account for the ledge just over the wall). Went to Hook Head but that didn't look great at low tide (especially when one doesn't know where to go) so I decided to head back to St. Mullins around 14:00 hours. The plan was to head up and get some shut eye but that never happened cause I ended up chatting away to some nice guys. After a bit of food and a few cups of strong coffee at the local café it was time to put some more pressure on my casting arm. More and more people arrived, I thought it was busy but others assured me this was nothing yet. Anyway, about a dozen or so were fishing and apart from some monster salmon happily splashing around the place nothing happened. After all these hours and miles I thought I had to go empty handed but just before I left I had a final cast and retrieved it rather fast and putting a lot of movement in the rod after 3 or 4 turns ... bang ... my very first ever Shad. It goes without saying I didn't want to leave after that one and luckily I didn't cause two casts later I hooked into the second one but lost it just before landing. I left at around 20:00 and till that time the overall catch rate was my two shad and 1 trout by someone else. Anyway no blank and met some really nice and friendly people for a change (well apart from the grumpy auld F****er that lives down the road with his red range rover) both in the morning as in the evening. Time for shut eye. Thanks for PM's and so on.

Thanks lads. Hard going but it paid off. One to tick off on the bucket/species list. Could be a good one for a thread on the site "The fishing Bucket list".

Went down after work yesterday and got 4 in, with 2 another 2 throwing the hook nearly at my feet. Was a lovely evening for it!
