With most of Dublin Meath Louth coasts carpeted with tiny whiting, why are there no big ones?, do they migrate when they get bigger ?, just seems strange that their all in around the same size ,I wouldn't mind getting a few pan sized ones

You can, just get a boat. They go for deeper/colder water when the grow. A 30cm whiting is big for the shore.

Winter time in the Shannon Estuary and the flats in North Clare are Good at night.
Be careful of rogue waves or a heavy swell.
Night time is best.

calm weather helps - check for frost and small tides, seem to like dirty water and can often be in mid water if there is any depth...
Found a great spot here in Clew Bay for them but they are covered in small black dots (which is a bit off putting). Anyone else seen this?

the black dots seems to be a west coast thing - seen in conamara up to clew bay by myself

I dunno I've fished out in the boat all summer all I've got is mackeral and any bait I put on the bottom gets torn apart by those little piranhas the second it hits bottom

used to get better ones around howth head and harbour, dun laoghaire harbour at end of west pier and sorrento fishing just inside of the run. i could be wrong but the larger ones 30cm + dont seem to be in the numbers they were in early 90's if they even show at all. dun laoghaire was a great spot for them.

I've had a few pan size ones from Ballycotton pier in wintertime, but there are among shoals of little ones too that attack the bait like mackerel

Had about 50 of the little mites the other night - I actually started using them as bait - which only got me more dogfish.

I was wondering why they rod was getting bent and I was pulling in 2 little finger sized whiting - then I realised the dogs were pulling on the whiting that had been caught!

Worse than crabs for stripping the line!
