Balscadden High Rocks

Thu May 20, 2004 9:35 am

Got a half dozen mackeral last night off the high rocks in Balscadden.
I was only there for about 3/4 hour and got 2 batches of three. On the smallish side, but still good to get them. Caught at distance on the bottom to some homemade feathers. Only a couple of others there who got nothing. Balscadden is still the tip I always remember though. :(

Hi JD,
Was there from 8.30 - 9.15pm, flooding tide. Caught the fish around 9.05pm in quite low light conditions.
There was no breeze so easily making 150+ yds from the height.
I'm gonna have to go back at the weekend to get some more as last nights are for the pan!

4 of us fished from 8am to 12pm - one small fish? caught as we arrived, dunno what it was though and then a small flattie on my rig about 11am. There was a guy fishing on the low rocks to the left and he caught a couple of macks!

Fished with feathers, mackeral, jellies. High tide was at 2 something, but we couldn't stay any longer!! Still a tip!

Arrived at balscadden just before high tide. Had just cast the first line of the day when a group of about 20 lads arrived armed with a ghetto blaster and a few dozen cans of lager. Once they started bombing into the water off the rocks we decided to move on.
I reckon in future we'll take the longer trek further around howth head.

Danceswithwolves, you have just given the definition of a mackerel basher  I'd say the cans went in the bin

Jd those black hokkai's are brilliant for mackerel and pollack, especially when the light is fading. My mate has used them to catch big pollack on his first cast! Ann's in Howth have got a good stock of fishing tackle in for the summer.
