North coast bass trip. 16th Feb

Sun Feb 16, 2014 11:50 pm

People: braved it alone

Duration: 4pm - 7pm

Tide: full 7.30pm

Weather: great. sunny. 7°C

Bait: manky dead rag, frozen crab

Rigs: 2 hook flapper. fly

Report:
headed to the north coast yet again to try for a bass, yet again. the weather was great so i couldn't miss out on the opportunity
there were plenty of people on the beach enjoying the long-awaited break in the weather 8) there was even a few guys on a jet ski messing about in the waves, and at one stage towing a water skier 8)
needless to say: NO BASS but i did manage a couple of coley. it was just nice to feel something pulling on the other end of the line!
managed to get one of the fish on the fly :) the surf was pretty big and the fly fishing was damn near impossible but i had a chuck for a short while and was chuffed to catch something. i'll get a bass on the fly yet. and i will return to that beach and fish it proper with the fly when i get the chance i.e. when there is little to no surf - if ever! it has some fantastic features that are crying out bass..
good to get out
happy enough with the wee result i suppose

btw, there were some major changes to the beach caused by the mad tides and waves we've been seeing over the last few weeks. some big boulders and rocks that were once in a compact certain area, and for as long as i can remember, have been shifted into a line along the length of the beach, the furthest being maybe 100yards away

a few pics below for the hell of it
cheers

Nice wee trip Charlie 8) Hard luck on the bass. I'm hoping to expand into the SWFF this year... a few coalies would be sweet!

cheers Brian. nah, you can always rely on the coleys up this way, even in the big surfs! - right in among the waves..
really big coleys in Norway btw......

no bother Robin. if you can manage to chuck a fly, and considering that there are a few coleys about, then you cant go wrong. nowhere near as fussy and as hard to get as those trout.. great fun on light gear, deadly wee scrappers on fly gear
get yourself up this way at some stage and i'll be glad to meet up with you for a spot of SWFF

ps. some crackin coleys ...and halibut, cod, plaice, wolffish and so on.. in Norway!... lol

Tough luck on the no-show by the bass but those coalies look big enough to give a bit of sport on the fly. Great pics as usual.
