Savage Gear Sandeels - Not my bag

So I know these lures are insanely popular and everyone swears by them, but I swear to god, I cannot get on with them!

If there is any bit of weed around, the exposed hook catches it.

If the ground is any bit rocky, I snag. even though I start reeling in the second it hits the water and reel in at warp feckin speed.

Now, seeing as most bass marks are at least a bit rocky I just don't know how people are using them to any avail.

I guess they are fine in an estuary or clean sandy beach, but I dont fish these very often.

How are you guys using them with any degree of success?

One positive in my book-they are a top class pollock lure off the boat. I had the irish flag one on a 75g jig head last weekend and absolutely killed with it

Dude I swear by them and lose very very little of them
Stop reeling fast !
Leave drop to almost bottom ( guess )
Snap rod towards you
Reel again on drop
Continue this.

I use weedless jig heads and have never lost one.

And are ye doing this over rocky ground guys ?

It seems to me like the arrow head jig head is just perfect to stick itself in rock crevices

I use them over rocky ground but not really shallow ground. I like a few feet over the rocks. I just hold the rod high so i don't have to rip em back to fast. Love them.

I wonder because I'm reeling in so fast, am I just "jamming" the lure into a crevice when I do hit the snag.

If I were retrieving more slowly with more feel maybe I might be able to gently lift over snags ?

I've never wet a SGS... Used Sandeel Slugs to good effect though.

Probably. It requires confidence but try to slo down a bit and feel. If the lure hits a rock just let the water movement sweep it away rather than attempting to crank through the obstacle

Having plenty of pollock on these lures in North Clare.
The maxrap rapalas are working really well.
My biggest pollock was 4.5 kilos.

It's all lure fishing lately, the multiplyers and beachrods are lying against the wall.
At 40 I have to keep moving lol

The green savagegear sand eels are working here for the pollock.

Braid is the way I go now, mono doesn't work the lure as good.....

I noticed from the session in Mulranny that a slow retrieve was the key
and this was for Pollack, so I guess the drop and slow retrieve it the way to go.

Plan to use senko like worms (aliexpress) on a texas rig on some shallow very weedy marks later in the summer...

will post here if it works... or not!
