Marty
When I first bought my Teklon 802 I bought a Shimano Twinpower 3000 to pair up with it. Personally I found the 3000 just not right for me- the lads weren't too sure either. I exchanged it for a 4000 instead and found it a better feel for me.

Best advice I can give is to bring the rod to where you are buying the reel or have seen it. Try each size on it and see which one suits you best.

Marty unless someone gives you the specific model you can't go by reel size alone when asking for advice as even reels by the same manufacturer can vary greatly in weight. For example a 4000 Shimano Rarenium weighs about the same as a 2500 Shimano Exage. So the actual model matters as much as the brand. You can usually get the weights on the manfacturers websites if you need to compare and buy online. But as has already been said if you can try the reel with the rod before you buy.

I can fully vouch for the Surecatch Unity reels, was lucky to obtain 2 of the 450's - the best FS reels I ever came across in their class, unfortunately hard to come by these days...

Sone would say yes. But if getting a Shimano I would say go for a 4000 or 2500 size (whichever balances best on the rod) as it is more versatile. If you are using fine braid just use more cheap backing. You need some backing or tape even with the 3000 model. If ypu wish you can then also use the same reel for thicker line like mono in the future or by using the spare spool. lTwo reels for the price of one if you like. With the 3000 you are restricted.

I have an xcellorX it's OK. Bit of play in it after 2 seasons of part time use.

Just an update on the Unity Reels - the 30 and the 45 are available from and tackle shops that deal with Dennetts in NI (I know that Dan Lynch does). If the shop does not have a Unity in stock they can order one for you.

The Unity is the same as a Sakura Alpax and also Spro do the same reel in a different colour!

Bought a unity reel combo'd with a surecatch rod,recommended by Jim C....Reel is a cracker,rod is a bit garish,over the top decals,
but plenty of backbone...the reel compares very favourably with a rarenium. :D
