Hi Martin. I'll give an example of how it will work.
You catch a Flounder of 38cm, the fish points for a Flounder is set at 60 points. So 38+60= 98 sub total points.
The bonus points for each species reflects how difficult it is to catch from the shore. The Bonus points for a Flounder is 1 point.
Sub total 98 points + 1 bonus points give you a total of 99 points.
The way I have it set up is a sub total target for each species of 100 points.
The longer the species the lower the bonus points and vice versa.
When you catch a bigger Flounder just email it and your score will be updated and your over total will increase.
Hope this gives you a better idea of how it will work and best of luck with your hunt for the year.
Pete A.

Hi all.
Thanks to everyone who have taken up the challenge and spent the time to send in the photos along with the details. Fish of the month has to go to Brian Reidy's Smelt, I don't think we will see many of them this year and an overall score of 109 is a great target for the rest of us to try to better in February. Just a quick note on the photo quality, I know it can be difficult to get clear pictures but before you take the shot please take the time to clean any dirt or sand off the fish.Keep it up lads and i'll send out the next report and the end of each month.
Pete.

species hunt 2014 - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing

Hi everyone.

Well done to everyone who sent in new new species during February.

As it stands now only 20 points separate the top 4 anglers.

Fish of the month goes to Damien Cooley with an impressive 40cm 3 bearded rockling for a score of 103 points.

Spring is starting to make an appearance so I will expect to see some new species arrive in the next few weeks.

Keep it going lads and try and get a few more anglers to take up the challenge.

Go to the IFSA web site and click on the species hunt tab in the news section to view the current scores and overall table standings.

Hi lads.
Well done and thanks for all the photos you sent in during the month of March. You can feel summer is on it's way judging by the array of different species being sent in over the last few weeks. Fish of the month for March went to John Sheenan with a 5 bearded Rockling of 25cm scoring 102 points, well done John. A special mention has to go to Mr Joe Byrne with the 3 colorful fish he sent in, although they were great catches I will remind everyone that all fish must be caught from the Irish coast line. Joes fish didn't qualify for a score but they were added to the gallery so everyone can be dazzled by his amazing catch, well done Joe.
Things are looking tight at the top of the table at the moment with anglers jostling for position and club mates acquiring bragging rites every day. The 30th April we see a quarter for the year over already, who will be the first person to break the 20 species mark by the end of the month?
Regards.

Hi everyone.

April was the best month yet with a good range of fish of all shapes and sizes.

A couple of rare catches worth a mention are Gary McCurry's Haddock and Harry McKee Jr with a Tadpole fish.

Lots of Flounder over 40cm were caught, special mention to junior angler Conor Mcdermott with a 45cm. Next up are a pair of match angling hotshots Martin Howlin and Mike Curtin, both with Flounders of 47cm, but the best Flounder for April went to well known specimen hunter Brian Cooke with a huge fish of 49cm. Based on their length, all of these fish would surely be specimens. Brian would surely won the fish of the month but at the 11th hour the world renowned match angler Martin Howlin snuck in with a Gilthead Bream of 46 cm to win the fish of the month with a score of 112 points, the highest scoring fish to date.

The target of April was to reach 20 species, Garry McCurry hit that mark and now leads the species hunt with 20 species and a score of 1694. Top junior angler is Eoin Foley with 8 species and a score of 676.

Could i ask everyone if they could send in picture sizes of 1mb or more, it's not essential but it would make it easier to identify certain fish. If you are not sure of the fish type, take as many photos possible and send them in with your entry, extra pictures of the wrasse species and all the mimi species would help alot. If I can't identify the fish I can't give the points. Also, if you catch a big or rare fish, please send me a photo of the angler holding the fish so I can get it up on the federation website and into the angling press.

Finally, I will not be accepting entries for Bass between 15th of May and the 15th June.

Pete.

Hi everyone.
May is over and the fishing has being fast and furious. Summer is truly here now and the variety of species sent in reflects this also. Fish worth a mention this month start with Willie Weir with the best Sting Ray so far scoring 110 points and Debbie Withers with a massive Short Spined Sea Scorpion which scored 111 points. Next up is Barry Murphy with a Gilthead Bream scoring 113 points, the biggest Gilthead for May was caught by Joe Duggan with a fish scoring 118 points. Fish of the month also goes to Joe Duggan with a Tope scoring 143, great fishing there Joe.
As I'm sure you have noticed by now we are having trouble with the link to the IFSA website, therefore I will send out updates twice a week untill I get the problem sorted.
I am putting a closing date for new anglers to join the species hunt, all new anglers must have entered by the 31st July.
Can I ask everyone if they catch a Sea Scorpion could they take photos of the underside of the head, and I will be taking entries for Bass again on the 16th June.
Pete.

Hi everyone,
June has being a very busy month for the bigger species.
First up are Stephen Hodge and Chris O'Sullivan both with Congers scoring 124 points.
Next up are the pair of chancers that are father and son duo Joe and Joseph Berney with a two Tope scoring 157 and 159 points, Joseph also pitched in with a good Huss for 128 points.
The highest scoring fish for June was Dean Quigley with a Tope for 160 points but the fish of the month has to be Deans monstrous Smoothound which scored 138 points over 20lb and just shy of the Irish record.
We are now halfway into the year with 55 anglers and a total of 58 different species caught so far with new species coming in every week..
I would like to remind everyone that the closing date for new anglers to register for the species hunt is the 31st July. If you know anyone who has been taking photos of fish, and not sent any in yet, please remind them to send them to me before the cut off date.
Tight lines lads.
Pete.
