After much deliberation we the commitee members of West Cork and District have decided to change the venue for the 2nd leg of the Munster Closed to Inch Strand in Kerry.
After a run of poor club matches on the previously chosen venue at Bantry , we recently decided to fish the area to see how prospects were looking for this match. Over a couple of days fishing by club members, in good conditions, it was found that the situation was chronic with extremely poor fishing. We also found and photographed 3 boxes of dogfish on the pier in Bantry. After making enquiries with a local commercial fisherman it was found that the local boats were now keeping and selling all dogfish to a buyer in Castletownbere to be used as bait for the brown crab potting fleet.
It was decided we couldn't take the risk of holding the match at Bantry with the evidence we had infront of us and especially with no other positive news arriving from other anglers.
In looking for a new mark we wanted somewhere that could be fished in the daytime to accommodate travelling anglers with darkness being so late this time of year. There had to be plenty of room available away from other beach users . It was important that it wasn't a very "peggy" venue, that it had little prospects of a weed problem and ofcourse a decent chance of fish to catch. Inch seemed to fulfill most of the requirements so that is the decision we have come to.
June the 16th is the day the closed season for bass ends and it is hoped that after having been given a good rest a few of them will turn up in the catches of flatfish.
It is impossible to please and accomodate everyone but I can assure all anglers we are only trying to hold a successful match and have based our decision making in this regard. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
