Crab activity to congers

Just an observation. Crabs can be a real pain on certain marks in the shannon but I've noticed that they don't seem to be an issue when I'm getting conger runs. Slack tides should be when the crabs are at their worst but this is often when the congers come out to play and the crabs disappear. Hard backs must be on the menu as well as peelers.

Crabs and Conger

I noticed the same thing last week Donagh. As you are only too aware, the shannon estuary is bloody full of the bait robbing blighters. But last week in foynes, we had 5 conger runs in an hour, and it is the only crabless hour Ive ever had on the estuary. On the subject of foynes, Dave and I are heading up there tonight for a spot of conger fishing. Lost a lovely fish there last week, and as we didnt see it, its grown about 4 feet since it was hooked.

Funnily enough I've never had any problems with crabs on the clare side of the Estuary. We had few nice runs last night in Tarbert but the best fish of the night was lost because of to light a snood.
