Rockling tactics

Any tips on catching three bearded rockling. Their a species that isn't written about probably due to their size but if there isn't alot about at least they can keep your reel ticking over on certain marks. Caught a 400 gramme fella last Sunday on a 4/0 pennel pulley on a chunk of mackrel.

Hi

Not that I have caught them regularly but they seem to like really rough conditions, churning bottom, low water specialists. Caught a spate of them in 5 metre waves and filthy water at the flat rocks in Dunmore East and another load seeking conger eels in calm conditions on the ferry terminal in Kilimer in Co. Clare (I reckon the ferry's screws churn up the bottom). They are resident so put them back and you can catch them next year! Mackerel is the best bait, fished right on the bottom. No beads or other aids, just a remarkably big bait for such a small fish...

FWIW...

Now I wouldnt say that... I always find a nice Calm night and a Liberal amount of Squid, Down the side of Donaghadee Pier... Hard to the Bottom.

Thanks lads. I'll try flatty type rigs with no beads and bigger hooks and baits. I was fishing in money point power station in a competition just down from kilimer and the water was as clear as the shannon gets which isn't that clear.
