BAIT..

Postby Clive O Driscoll » Sun Oct 22, 2017 4:33 pm

Hi all,

Just wondering of how others are baiting for Cod etc? I just finished preparing a few Crab & Squid sausages, i had seen it on you tube and said it would benefit me to prepare the night before and that way i could actually sit and enjoy my session, be able to actually watch the rod in piece.

Any thought or advise, always welcome.

Hey Clive

They look like top sausies :D How many crabs per squid? Seems a little excessive, and expensive :D

Will you be using the whole bait? I'd say half of one of those will throw out enough scent to do you - but im no expert.

Well done on having the balls to do that at home with the woman about :D

Hey Ardinn,

Lol, i was thinking of cutting them into half's alright, the bloke on you tube uses the whole bait, but i will start with half and see how i get on.
I had a box of squid and that was 5 Euro, and got 24 crab yesterday for 20 Euro, the crab were small and a few big ones, so 2 crab per squid, the squid i only have half on each sausage, so not too bad at all, there in the fridge waiting for the early hours now.

Only woman in the house these days is my Mother  and did them out the back so no mess our smell for her to get at me.
If i was fishing a serious beach then i would use the full bait, but I'm still thinking of where to head too atm. Only a few hours so not too far away

I have done what you did before, made them up at home. I have a box of rapid feeders outside and im thinking of filling them with the juice from this the next time I do it (winter shore festival probably) and freezing them - then making a 3HF with maybe 2 feeder attachments for serious scent bombs!

Anyone ever do similar??

Very impressive! Fair play to you - nice bit of preparation. The right idea too, not to be f**king about when you're on the mark. Good luck with it.

Thats the way i see it Pajo, exactly that.. As I've just re-started back at Sea Fishing, i found myself constantly working, I like to have 2 pulley pennel Rigs on the go, so I would be preparing constantly, and its very annoying to not be able to enjoy my Fishing.

Some more of this will apply now, well maybe Not the Sun :)

I find the pre baiting is a great convenience when you're out does allow you more time to enjoy the fishing. I stopped doing it though because i felt (especially with crab i was juicing the bait with elastic and losing a lot of it. As much as a pain in the ass it is, especially when the fishing is good. I believe shelling the crab as late as possible makes for a much better bait.
