advice on back pack

right guys looking for some advice on a back pack, am looking to get one this week, was thinking about getting the Ian golds one, but witch one would you recommend???

Hi ive got the ian golds back pack. And its worth every penny.it comes with a cooler box that fits on top for more space or inside .i got mine in veals. and ive had loads of tackle boxs and this one is far the best. i went with the small one and its fine for all my gear and fixed spool reels.any more gear and it would be to heavy to carry. hope this helps .

Hi Don,I have the two and use the larger one all the time.It can fit a big flask in the side pockets,where I cant with the smaller one .I dont necessarily bring more gear with me but theres just more room to put stuff, if you know what I mean.I dont find it any heavier,just handier to throw up on the back.

YA i know what you mean about the flask. its not made for a good size flask but its a all round good bag.

You cant go wrong with the ian golds. I have the small backpack myself and it holds all my gear no problem. A flask can be hung from a karabiner on one of the plastic thingys on the pack. ( cant think what you call them, but there are 2 of them on the bag) . So heres a pic.

i fish with dave all the time and his back pack is good but as dave will tell you it cant be sat on so he has to bring a seat with him so get yourself a proper box with the attachment of a backpack and you have the best of both

i have a small fold up stool witch can be carried on the side of my rod holdall, but thanks for the advice fishface...

just getting around to sorting out the back pack, now there is four straps with vergo on them, there about 10 inches long, i recond they are for attaching the cool bag to the top of the pack, but how the feck do you attach it

I also have the Ian golds packs, but be very careful with the zips. Clean and Vaseline them often. The two zips for the front fold down flap just busted on mine. I wish they chose a decent zip.

Also Dave,
Keep your leads in the bottom and reels in the top. The leads sit better and don't put as much pressure on the shelves.

The zips on these bags are regarded as the best zips manufactured they are used on all the top quality motorcycle products and heavy duty luggage. As with anything exposed to salt-water it needs to be cleaned now and then and regular care of all items fishing tackle is highly recommended.

Motorbikes are mainly exposed to fresh water and these zips seem to suffer badly in the salt. Even with cleaning I got a really bad build up on the underside of the Zip and eventually it broke (the other evening).... The problem was mainly on the two front flap zips.... The others zips seem oxidized, but are working fine.

On the Pack, it is an excellent product, and really keeps things stored well & is very easy on the back as well. I liked it enough to get another

"Plastic zips" I take it you mean the sliders....well you can buy them easy enough but the reason they are not used very much is because unlike alloy sliders they wear very quickly and stop holding the zip teeth locked.

Mac, you may have caused the problem yourself, because using Vaseline on a nylon zip wont have any lubricating effect but Vaseline will cause sand and salt residue to stick to that area and work against the nylon zipper and the metal slider as an abrasive. All any of the zips need if there is a build up of salt or sand is a light brushing with a nail-brush and possibly a little clean tap water.

BTW....all of the zips and alloy sliders are the same, they all come from the same manufacturer and have the same spec, only the sizes are different."

excellent info Paul... Thanks. I normally don't use Vaz myself, but would use a spray on grease, which might be having the same effect. I still think the alloy could be better or as JW mentioned plastic wet suit zips sound like the way to go. I only suffered this problem on the front zips as mentioned, for me the pack can't be beat. It stores everything away perfectly and in an easy to reach manner....
