Cork Harbour Light Line Competition 17th Jan 2010

#1 Post by Pat »

People: Cobh SAC - 17 competitors

Duration:9:30m - 2:30pm

Tide:LW 12:55pm

Weather:For January, it was a beautiful day

Bait:All sorts

Rigs:Again, all sorts

Results: Can't complain

Report: Well yes, we can't complain. I was a bit worried that all the fresh water from the melted snow and heavy downpours during the week might spoil things. However, although slow, the fishing wasn't that bad. We ended up with a good mixture of cod, whiting, lsd, dabs, poor cod, pouting, etc.,...

Results are as follows:

1st... Peakle
2cnd...Redgill
3rd...Rederic

I'll put up a more detailed report tomorrow, with a few pics. I'm shattered....was working until 4am last night  !

well jim ,glad you had luck ,we was fishing in the ally boat near you at times but failed to catch anything! tried again the next day ,it was calm but foggy but managed to fish out of the harbour as far as pollock rock and also the same spots as sunday but neadless to say we both had blanks yet again, met some other fishermen in there boat who also blanked so we werent the only ones, john has had his boat in the harbour for a few years but maintains that sunday was the first blank he and barry had had !its a lovely spot well worth the 400 odd mile round trip from ballinasloe !!!!!!! when we return just hope we have better luck,

That's unlucky Steve. We did have better luck....not one of the 17 competitors blanked, all had fish. I still have to put up a full report. I'm waiting on ROADRUNNER to e-mail me the pics.

Although, the fishing was a bit slow, everyone caught fish. Lines down was at 9:30am and between then and lines up at 2:30pm 142 fish were landed. The majority of fish coming over the gunwhales were whiting, with a lot of them hitting the 40cm mark. Yours truly had 9 cod so I was quite happy with that. The best of the codling was about 45cm. Ger Keohane had a smasher of a dab that came very close to the new specimen mark. Here are a few pics:

Why not fish with us the next time :?: . Our next competition is on Sunday 14th Feb. Its exactly the same format again this time. I think you'll agree at €40 a head its quite good value....there's also prizes thrown in. With an average of 8 fish caught per angler last Sunday its not a bad return for 5 hours fishing 8) ! It might just make that long round trip worthwhile :D .
