seabirds west waterford 7/8/09

#1 Post by seanie35 »

People:me and mick

Duration:12.30 till 2.30

Tide:full out 1.30

Weather:mild overcast with a tasty breeze

Bait:plugs

Rigs:plugs

Results:8 bass

Report:got to micks house about 12 and headed down to the mark, mick has been lure fishing a while but yet to get his first bass on one so hopes where high with conditions a1 :P , first 40 minutes were slow with 1 follow as we slowly waded down the mark and mick asking wheres the fish  . out in the center of the bay there was a huge flock of seabirds crash diving into baitfish but way out of range  . as we worked our way down we spotted another fisherman into a fish a couple of hundred yards away then disaster, mick hooks a good fish which done a full circle around me and just as we got sorted it broke the line with a searing run :? but at least things were looking up, i hooked up soon after with a nice plump 3lber which had the 3 trebles stuck down its side serious time spent trying to unhook it so after today just going to fish 1 treble  , then it got good in fact very good :D :D :D , a group of terns maybe 40 or fifty working in a tight formation diving in turn started heading in our direction so i warned mick to get ready for a david attenborough moment and sure enough chaos ensued, mick was first in with his first bass on a plug so had to get a photo of the magic fish about 2lb, birds were getting closer about 100 yards away and we basically got about 8 hook ups in a row landed 4 , most in the 3 to 4lb bracket  , 1 fish just went savage slashing at the plug on the surface about 3 times in front of me before hooking i was loving it :D  . mick got another 1 and the fishing slowed, at this stage mick was waterlogged and like a sumo wrestler  , tide was starting to come in so we started the retreat. birds were working again but further out so put on a press bait hd which has a nice bit of weight in it and got 2 more on the retreat, great session still buzzing  8) we kept our legal limit and went home.
