The Gannons, South Beach, Greystones, Co Wicklow, 3/11/08

#1 Post by shamoo0804 »

People: Myself & Corbyeire

Duration: 19.45-00.15

Tide:last of the ebb, then flood

Weather:cold northerly wind, changed to northeasterly, choppy sea with big swell, no rain

Bait: frozen crab, mack, lug, squid, rag

Rigs:me - 3 hook flapper, 2 hook-up clipped down, brian - 3 hook flapper, 1 hook clipped down

Results:30+ fish between us to inc: bass, coalies, whiting, flounder, short spined sea scorpian, Brian will correct me if I've missed any out.

Report: A pleasant enough nights fishing, I got a nice plump coalie on my first cast, then brian got a double of coalie and bass....things looked good 8)

We both had big baits out (+ the 3 hook flappers), which we tried in close and at distance, but I think all but one fish were caught from 5-40 yards out on the 3 hook flappers.

Brian got all but one fish on mack, I got most of mine on rag, with 2 good whiting coming to crab claw.

Biggest coalie was 37cm, whiting to 33cm.

A bit suprised by the sea scorpian, but it obviously indicates a bit of rough ground in the area.

Weed was not much of a problem....thank god....it can be a killer on this beach sometimes.

Strangely, most of the fish were caught on the last hour of the drop, and first hour of the fill, fishing slowed right down as the the tide reached half way back in :? :? :?

I have only fished this beach a few times, maybe it fishes better on the drop :?:

Anyway, not a bad nights fishing all round

Al i thought i told you to keep quiet about my laser eyes!

didnt prevent the shiner though - probably from hanging round the play area too long!!!

shamoo was right. the only fish that came at distance was a large whiting, had 3 over the 30 and the others was decent too beats the pin plague

biggest flounder was 30cm but others shorter seemed to be much plumper

the only fish i didnt get on mack was the sea scorpian on rag, a strange one alright.

there seemed to be a few rough patches there and i snagged the distance rig a few times on what felt like weed

happy out with the evening and as mark said the rain never came

No joy with the Tope yet one of the best marks can't be accessed at the moment which isn't helping but i've another mark lined up going to give it ago before the end of the week so fingers crossed it produces good double figure huss also its one of those spots accessible in a 4x4 or tractor only!! Herself is going to be off at the horse sales for a good bit of November so should get a good few sessions in :) planning trips north to Donegal and across to Wexford. Your more than welcome to come across anytime the doors always open.... thight lines :)

Well rodger, I do my bit for society, what more can I say.

Its good to give a bit back from time to time, keeps me in positive karma.....a bit more luck on the beach that way
