Wexford Bass 30-July-2009

#1 Post by Danny M. »

People:Baz Pat and Myself

Duration:1 hour 30mins

Tide:over low

Weather:Tropical :P

Bait: Hard and Soft Plastics

Results: 5 Bass

Report:

On location, Soft plastics out, the lads were on the Xlayer and I was on Storm sand eel. Couple of casts in we were all well spread out, the faint shout of Pat could be heard in the distance, I looked up and the lad was bent into a bar silver. A great fight had Pats rod bent in a hoop :D a great start a quick photo and the fish was sent back.
I was just putting the camera away when Baz let a roar out of him he now had a fish on his Xlayer and this baby was dancing in the surf another fine Bass landed in the space of minutes, Baz released the fish and cast in again.
I persisted with the storm but had no joy. I was constantly moving covering ground and then switched to the Xlayer which I duly lost :!: I couldn’t feel what my softies were doing in the water due to the strong surf, so I stuck on my Tide minnow and lost that :!: I wasn’t too impressed at this stage.
Another shout from Baz took my mind off it for a minute, he landed another Bass after bearing some white water over his head  this time he was using..........the Tide Minnow surf ! Great timing eh! A quick picture and the fish was sent back. Good buzz.
I wondered off trying different lures but nothing was showing any interest, the lads followed me after a while and first cast for Baz at my location resulted in...you guessed it !......a Bass on the Tide Minnow surf !!!!!!! He quickly released the fish and was straight back in the water.
It was getting dark at this stage.
The lads headed off to try another spot and I moved location again and remembered I had Tide Minnow Slim in my box so I stuck that on and banged her out.........Bang everything went solid for a few seconds and then line zipped off the reel, so I tightened down the drag after a couple of mins but I could not get the better of the fish as my rod locked up ...it couldn’t handle it, the fish was too strong and he was heading for some sharp rocks.
I could just see Pat walking away in the distance so I let a few screams out of me   I finally turned the fish and surfed it in on the waves with the help of pat.
Quick photo and a few smiles and the fish was released.
Quiet then after that apart from me losing my Maria Chase on my last cast !

Time for a rod upgrade I think !

That's a great bass - I suppose it lessens the pain of loosing all those lures.
