Specimen Hounds 21 June 2009

#1 Post by Danny M. »

People: Baz, Pat & Myself

Duration:11pm- 5:00am

Tide: Rise

Weather: Nice clam & Warm

Bait: Lug, and Frozen Crab

Rigs:4/0 & 3/0 Pennel Pulleys

Results:
Baz: 1 Hound, 1 Flounder & 1 L.S.D. ( I think!)
Pat: 4 or 5 Hounds & 1 L.S.D. ( I think!) / 8lb 8 oz Specimen
Myself: 7 Hounds & 1 L.S.D. / 10lb 5oz Specimen

Report: An all nighter was decided to catch the full rise. Myself and Baz went and dug the lug around 10pm, we brought a lovely big bag of carrots with us to aid in seeing the lug!
Pat headed straight to the mark to suss it out for us. We arrived and it was game on conditions looked good and our anticipation was high.
The two lads got their lug baits in the water first while I made up a few traces, their baits remained stationary until the tide began to flood. I looked up soon after to see the two lads down in the surf playing a fish each. Pat landed a Hound while Baz pulled in a nice Flounder. I grabbed the camera and took the picture and both fish were duly returned.
I sent my first bait of the evening out, a lump of frozen crab aimed high and hard, a few moments later I was playing my first Hound, plenty of energy in the fellow and I was off up the beach for a romantic jog with him :)
Just as I landed the fish, Baz struck into a Hound, it was his turn for a bit of beach exercise. With both Hounds on the Beach we took a couple of pictures and sent the fish back.
From here its a bit of a blur, weed came into it for a couple of hours which seemed to kill the fishing, although I was still managing to pull a few Hounds and an L.S.Ds. out of it to test my jogging shoes :D
In the mix of it all I got a timid bite which I duly struck and immediately realised I was into a good Hound, he steamed up the beach taking line each time I tried to turn him, he surfaced about 50 yards out, thrashing and flipping about the water. Pat came up the beach to me see what I was at so I pointed to my 7ht which was paying out line as I stood there with a grin on my face :D . A few minutes later I landed the Hound, it tipped the scales at 10lb 50z !! If Carlsberg did fish ...!!!!
Happy wasn’t the word...!, a quick picture and the fish was released, it swam off at speed.
Pat began to find some Hounds with Baz landing an L.S.D. to keep things ticking over. Just before first light Pat struck into another good Hound, although there was a substantial amount of weed on the line the fish still gave a good account of himself. The fish was beached and tipped the scales at 8lb 8oz ! another Cracker !!
Smiles all round, more pictures and the fish was released.
I picked up another Hound just before first light, it proved to be the last fish of the session. As soon as the light came on the water the fish switched off, we gave it until 5am and then called it quits.

Until next time 8)
