But what would you say yourself if you saw someone with bass during the ban :? A few years back i got a right ear full from someone who was out for a walk while i had a bass as he walked passed. To be fair the man ment well but he went well over the top and i understand his point the bass was always going to go back ban or not i always do.We could do with a few more like him.

I think if some of us anglers find ourselves sitting at home with nothing to do waiting for the 15th of June to pass well go out for a nice beach walk, ehm..patrol, along the hotspots and if you see someone fishing, just a few questions to suss things out would suffice. If someone does suspect someone of having Bass on them or fishing for Bass is there a number to call? If so can this be posted here by someone please?

This topic is becoming an annual event,it's not a new law everyone knows it inside out ,why not use the time to catch fish you don't usually go for?

Visit your hotspots...make sure the netters aren't there! Be vigilant this is the month that a lot of illegal activity can take place as the netters feel safe in the knowledge that their activities will go un-noticed.

its great to see everyone being so protective of bass during the closed season but after it they go out and pull a bass out of the sea on a bit of line for sport, even if you catch and release it cant be good for the fish,if I wanted to protect a species of fish I wouldn't go fishing for it at any time of the year
I think it would be better if the Site Admin sent out a group pm every year before the ban to remind everyone about the ban and leave it at that

It is hereby prohibited to fish or attempt to fish for Bass with any rod, line or weir during the period commencing on 15 May to 15 June each and every year.
has any one ever heard of any one being prosecuted for fishing or attempting to fish for bass during the closed season?i think it would be hard to prove in court what a lad was fishing for

Bass closed season

#38 Post by stevo74 »

I propose a ban on posting about the bass ban from 15th May to 15th June each year!!!

Ehhh, one last question though - is the ban inclusive of 15th June itself? I have seen it worded 'until the 15th of June' which would imply that the 15th can be fished on???

(Apologies if I opened another can of worms but these worms are for flounder only!!!!)

Yes very repetitive every year, same all arguments on both sides  .Seriously though Steve maybe you should have looked at some of the older posts from previous years as "the 15th of june" question has arisen many times before and been answered.Soooooo boring this topic but even experienced and respected anglers are'nt aware of all the nitty gritty details and if so there is still a need for such "postings" so as to eduacate all anglers of all levels.

Before i get the usual smart arse comment from "there only bass brigade" on here ,[just stating facts],why not put up ALL the facts around the ban, make it a sticky and that will be the end of this annual mud slinging contest. :D After that people can concentrate on catching some other species of fish that are equally as fine a fish in many ways[if not better  ] than the ould smelly spikey, speaking of which im off now to try for some decent flatties on my trout rod :D
