sounds like it needs a good cleaning, break it down, flush with petrol to clean it out,and regrease it.should do the trick.

I have a couple of reels that I want looking at, so I rang Mick Symmonds over in the UK. He usually does them for me.

This time around he told me about a Dutchman setting up operation in Limerick. Highly recommended him too. I've spoken with him, but haven't sent on the reels yet as I'm going to gather a few more in from the club lads and make a job lot of it. €17.50 service per reel, excluding postage and cost of spare parts.

Don't have the contact details to hand, want me to dig them out? Or just google for Mick Symmonds Reel Servicing over in the Uk, and have a quick chat with him.

:| If it went for a swim, it might need a full strip down, clean and re-build.

The grinding noise Sounds like it might be the bearings behind the handle.... Normally there is a pair. one in each side of the housing.

Pop these bearings out. You might be able to get replacements online. Look at the reel schematic and goggle the part number. you might get the dimensions. If you get the dimensions, check http://www.vxb.com for replacements bearings. If you can't get the dimensions, take the shield one side of the bearings. flush the bearings with white spirits and try to get them running freely. Then fill the bearing with marine grease and pop back in. This should get you sorted. If you are thinking about going this way, let me know and I'll try get a few pics uploaded for you to help you out.

Hello lucky sorry to hear of your reel problem, don't bother stripping your reel, look up
Felindre services Swansea they are the shimano autherised agent for western Europe,
my stradic 4000 has been back to them for repairs and servicing, normally back in 10 days
and I must say their costs are cheap.

the main shaft that runs up the centre of the reel that holds the spool etc can bend , this can happen if you cast wth the spool fully out and puts exta load on the shaft.
