Introduction - Co. Galway

For a county with an enormous coastline, Galway is very unexplored in terms of sea angling.  Perhaps this is because it is so famous for the game fishing on the Corrib, Cara and other trout lakes, but for whatever reason a sea-angler can find himself spoilt for choice in Co. Galway!  The most extraordinary and true story about fishing in Ireland concerns a young man, paddling in the sea and spinning for mackerel.  Having caught one and reeled it in, he left it swimming between his naked feet in the water while he fiddled with the rod.  Suddenly the reel exploded and he looked down just in time to see a small tope disappear off with his mackerel!  He was in less than two feet of clear water at the time... and was using very light tackle, during the sunny weather!

So far we've only been able to locate just a few boats, but there are plenty more!
